The mortar arrives by parabola. The rocket arrives by line. Between the two of them, there is no patch of ground in the enemy formation that is not directly under fire — and the chaos-dwarven artillery-corps has spent two thousand years perfecting the timing of their alternation. The Sons of Marduk Mortar and Rocket Launcher Set is the heavy-and-light artillery pairing of the chaos-dwarven army — a full battery of two complementary war machines served by a shared five-man crew of Marduk artillerists, designed to be deployed together because their tactical signatures are designed to be deployed together. The mortar is the heavy answer: a stout brass-and-iron tube mounted on a low timber carriage, lobbing explosive shells in long indirect arcs that come down on top of fortifications, dense formations, and any other target that thought a wall or a shield would solve the problem of incoming fire. The rocket launcher is the lighter answer: a multi-rail launching frame of welded iron, firing volleys of runic-tipped rockets in flat trajectories across open ground at the formations the mortar cannot reach with sufficient speed. Together they are a complete artillery solution — long arc and flat line, slow heavy round and fast light volley, the kind of complementary fire-pattern that the chaos-dwarven priesthood has been refining since the early sieges of the original Mesopotamian campaigns. The five-man crew rotates across both pieces depending on which one is the active tactical priority. Each crewman wears the segmented armor and soot-darkened robes of the chaos-dwarven artillery-corps, his beard braided in the formal artillerist's three-strand pattern, his hands and forearms calloused from decades of handling powder, fuse, ramming-rod, and rocket-spar. They carry the patient certainty of soldiers whose work is done from prepared positions, behind cover, with weapons they have served for so long that the weapons have started to feel like extensions of their own bodies. The mortar is engraved with the cuneiform names of Marduk and his Enuma Elish-cycle. The rocket launcher carries the draconic-wing motif of the cult on its launching-frame and the small brass plates that name every battery this design has served on going back through the ages. And the southern enemies — when they come up against this pair — develop a very specific kind of fear: the kind that comes not from being shot at, but from being shot at by two fundamentally different geometries of incoming fire simultaneously.
